A Nairobi team of mountain guides, safari drivers and Maasai trekking partners who have been leading travellers across East Africa since 2009.
Our story
Volcano Mountain Expeditions was founded on a simple belief: that the best mountain and safari experiences come from crews who actually grew up on these mountains and plains. We are not a booking agency reselling other operators' trips. Our guides are Kenyan, Tanzanian and Ugandan mountaineers who have stood on every summit we sell, and our Maasai trekking partners were born in the Loita Hills they walk you through.
For over 17 years we have guided climbers up Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro, trekked the Loita Hills with the Maasai, and run safaris across the Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Samburu, Amboseli, Tsavo and the Rift Valley lakes. We have built our reputation on three things: honest pricing, safety-first crews, and treating every traveller like family.

When you climb with us, your guide knows the weather signs, the wildlife and the slow acclimatisation path that gets you to the summit. Your cook knows how to feed you well at 4,000 metres. Your porters are paid fairly and tipped transparently. And when something goes wrong — a twisted ankle, a storm, altitude sickness — we have the training, the oxygen and the evacuation plan already in place.
Our conservation pledge
East Africa's mountains and savannas are not a backdrop — they are the reason we exist. That is why we plant 25 indigenous trees for every booking, working with local community nurseries to restore the forests that feed Mount Kenya's rivers and shelter the wildlife of the Rift Valley. We are a WWF conservation partner and a KATO member, and we follow leave-no-trace principles on every trek.
